OFAB dedicates September 28th of every year to celebrating its activities and promoting effective science communication regarding agriculture and biotechnology.
Lilongwe, Malawi - The National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) is gearing up to host the Open Forum for Agriculture Biotechnology (OFAB) day on Thursday, September 28th, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The event, which will take place at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC), aims to bring together all OFAB chapters across Africa to discuss the creation of an enabling environment for agriculture biotechnology research and development.
OFAB dedicates September 28th of every year to celebrating its activities and promoting effective science communication regarding agriculture and biotechnology.
This year, Malawi has been chosen as the host country, and the day will kick off with an OFAB day match from the Ministry of Education Headquarters at Capital Hill at 9:00 a.m.
The match will be followed by keynote addresses and speeches starting at 12:00 noon at the BICC.
According to Gift A. Kadzamira, the Director General of NCST, the event aims to enhance knowledge and awareness of biotechnology to better inform decision-makers.
"The project seeks to promote effective science communication to close the information gap on issues relating to agriculture and biotechnology," Kadzamira explained.
The OFAB project is also being implemented in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Rwanda.
The NCST, in collaboration with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), has been implementing the OFAB project since its official launch on April 1st, 2022.
The project aims to support the development and adoption of agricultural biotechnology in Africa.
The OFAB day in Malawi is expected to attract participants from various sectors, including scientists, policymakers, researchers, and farmers.
The discussions and presentations during the event will provide valuable insights into the progress and challenges of agriculture biotechnology in Africa.
As the host country, Malawi has the opportunity to showcase its achievements in agriculture and biotechnology and contribute to the overall advancement of the field on the continent.
The event will serve as a platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among the OFAB chapters.
The NCST encourages all stakeholders and interested individuals to attend the OFAB day and contribute to the dialogue on the future of agriculture and biotechnology in Africa.

You should include the funders of this, the pushers of the synthetic chemicals and seeds that are destroying our earth and people. Please provide balanced reporting on synthetic agriculture such as Genetic Engineering.
Please also include a lot of reports on agriculture that is good for our environment, people, and profits - AgroEcology. There are many terms used - you can report on organics, permaculture, regenerative, syntropic, and more. These are the solution to many of our problems.
