Local media partner to combat fake news

Two Malawian media startups, AfricaBrief and iHubOnline, have launched a collaborative fact-checking project called iCheck ahead of the country's 2025 elections.

The initiative will harness artificial intelligence to combat misinformation and empower public media literacy.

iCheck aims to reach thousands of readers across social media and its website with nonpartisan fact-checking of suspect claims around the elections.

The project combines AfricaBrief's extensive experience in fact-checking with iHubOnline's proficiency in AI tools.

Both organizations are led by specialists in technology's emerging role in journalism and disinformation mitigation.
