The event aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and their impact on workplace productivity.
ZOMBA, Malawi — Improving mental health in the workplace is vital for productivity, officials said Friday during World Mental Health Day celebrations at Zomba Mental Central Hospital (ZMCH), writes Peter Davieson.
The event's theme was "It's time to prioritize mental health in the workplace."
Dr. Raphael Piringu, Director of ZMCH, stressed the importance of senior officers monitoring their subordinates' work and implementing motivational activities.
"The workplace should be conducive, giving room for juniors to work effectively. This increases productivity and safeguards workers," Piringu said.
Zomba City Mayor Christopher Jana, the guest of honour, praised ZMCH's cleanliness compared to other hospitals in the country.
He noted that new slabs at the hospital will reduce dust exposure for patients and staff.
Jana emphasized the importance of discussing mental health issues.
"I recommend that Malawians embrace this day to remind one another that anyone can experience brain health problems," he said.
