Zomba mayor opens modern toilets at Matiya Primary School
The toilets were constructed with funds the school won at the Mayor's Trophy.
ZOMBA, Malawi— The mayor of Zomba city council officially opened modern toilets at Matiya Primary School on Monday, an development expected to improve hygiene at the learning institution, writes Zonkey Kaziyenda.
"Environment where there is no good toilets cause panic to people who live at the place and construction of these modern toilets is a great relief to staffs and learners at the school," said Mayor Davie Maunde.
Maunde encouraged teachers and learners to work hard, saying the new facilities have created a conducive environment to learn and work freely.
Matiya Primary head teacher Kelvin Mopiha said the modern toilets came at an opportune time as the school was facing a shortage after some facilities collapsed due to Cyclone Freddy.
The school has only eight toilets for its 1,800 students, and Mopiha urged well-wishers to help construct more to meet the needs of the student population.
