Zimbabwe donates 20 000 vaccines to Namibia
This is the first time for an African government to donate vaccines to another state.
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has ordered his government to facilitate the donation of 20 000 vaccines to neighbouring Namibia in spirit of brotherhood and solidarity between the two countries.
The announcement was made by Information and Publicity Minister Monica Mutsvangwa during post cabinet briefing.
This is the first time for an African government to donate vaccines to another state.
Zimbabwe has budgeted for 18 million vaccines to be used to immunise 60 percent of its population.
Zimbabwe, unlike most of other African states, is using locally generated resources to procure vaccines from China, Russia and COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access, abbreviated as COVAX.
Currently, Zimbabwe has nearly 15 million vaccines and its vaccination management has been lauded by World Health Organisation as the best by developing nation standards.
