Zathu Empowers Malawian Youths on Sexual and Reproductive Health

DOWA, Malawi — Zathu, an organization dedicated to empowering Malawian youths, has embarked on a mission to educate and engage young people in Dowa district on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) through open-air interventions, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
These community events are part of Zathu's ongoing commitment to provide young people with vital information and services to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.
Thembi Thadzi, Partnership Manager for Zathu Programs, expressed the organization's objective in organizing these community activities.
Thadzi emphasized the importance of equipping young individuals with accurate information to enable them to make the right choices regarding their health and future.
"Empowering these young people with information will enable them to make informed decisions about their health and shape their future," Thadzi stated.
Thadzi underscored that Zathu recognizes the significance of providing young people with access to precise information and high-quality services, which are critical for making informed choices about their sexual reproductive health.
Gwynnie Kanjo, District Youth Officer (DYO), commended Zathu for conducting a series of impactful activities in Dowa district, specifically tailored to engage youths on sexual reproductive health interventions.
Kanjo described these engagements as transformative and expressed optimism about the future prospects of Dowa's youth.
"With Zathu's continued commitment, the future looks brighter for the youths in Dowa," Kanjo affirmed.
The event featured a vibrant array of activities, including dancing competitions, drama performances, poems, and a musical performance by artist Katwell and Phwanyaphwanya boys.
These creative elements added depth and engagement to the educational initiatives.
Zathu is currently implementing a five-year project in Dowa titled "Innovations in Health Rights and Development (iHEARD)," with funding support from Global Affairs Canada.
