Zambian Climate NGO Pushes Radio for Drought Response Advocacy
This year's World Radio Day theme focuses on "Radio and Climate Change."
LUSAKA, Zambia — The Media Network Action on Climate Change (MENACC) called Thursday for greater use of radio programming to address climate challenges following last year's severe drought, writes Winston Mwale.
"Let us celebrate and harness the transformative power of radio in communicating, educating, and raising awareness about climate change," the organization said in a statement marking World Radio Day 2025.
MENACC Executive Coordinator Kennedy Phiri emphasised radio's ability to reach remote communities with information on climate resilience while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
"Our country is still recovering from the devastating impacts of the worst drought in living memory as witnessed in the 2023/2024 farming season," the statement noted.
The group pledged to continue collaborating with stakeholders to use radio broadcasts for climate education and community mobilisation.
