Zambia Marks "Observe the Weather Day," Calls for Climate Awareness
As part of its awareness efforts, MENACC plans to hold a climate change concert later this year.
LUSAKA, Zambia— Zambia's media advocacy group is urging greater public education and government support for weather monitoring and climate change preparedness as the nation marks "Observe the Weather Day" on Saturday, writes Winston Mwale.
In a statement, the Media Network Action on Climate Change (MENACC) highlighted the critical role of weather data in safeguarding Zambia's agriculture-dependent economy and communities.
"Weather patterns and phenomena have profound impacts on agriculture, water resources, health, and disaster management," the group said.
MENACC called on the government, particularly the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment and the Department of Meteorology, to invest in public awareness about the environment and climate change.
The organisation acknowledged the valuable work of meteorologists and climate scientists, stressing the need for adequate financial and material support to enable their important contributions.
As part of its awareness efforts, MENACC plans to hold a climate change concert later this year.
"Let us all join in celebrating 'Observe the Weather Day 2025' and work together to build a weather-resilient Zambia," the statement concluded.
