Zambia, Malawi Football Legends to Clash in Friendly Match
The Chipata trip is just one of many engagements planned for the football legends in partnership with JK Productions and other partners in the future.
Lilongwe, Malawi -- In celebration of Zambia's Independence Day, legendary football players from Malawi and Zambia will take to the field in a friendly match, offering fans a chance to relive the glory days, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The match is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata, Zambia.
The exciting event is the result of collaboration between the Zambia Football Association and the Football Association of Malawi. It is poised to become an annual occurrence.
According to Anthony Msendema, a representative of JK Productions, the Football Association of Malawi, in partnership with JK Productions, has selected 35 players and 13 officials for training in Lilongwe from October 26, 2023, ahead of the match against the Zambia Football Legends team.
"The trip to Zambia is a significant milestone for the football legends as they will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with their counterparts, promoting football development in both countries. The teams will play in their national colours, and the match is expected to live up to its top billing," stated Msendema.
Willy Chabwinja, a former Civo United and Flames player who is part of the travelling squad, described the highly anticipated match as a pivotal moment and an excellent opportunity for the legends to promote Malawi.
He believes the match will provide spectators with a memorable experience and showcase the nation's football prowess.
Chabwinja emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of former players who often served under challenging conditions in the past.
FAM Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of the Referees Subcommittee, Rashid Ntelera, praised JK Productions for their dedication to working with former footballers, whom he views as significant stakeholders in football.
The team will be led by Kinna Phiri as the head coach, with Young Chimodzi as the assistant coach.
Jim Kalua will serve as the second assistant coach, while Justin Saidi and Anthony Msendema will be team manager and doctor, respectively.
