Youths "Equipped for Success" Through FOCCAD Program
The one-year program equipped participants with diverse vocational skills, fostering self-reliance and community development.
NKHOTAKOTA, Malawi-In a transformative initiative spearheaded by the Foundation for Community Capacity Development (FOCCAD), 76 out-of-school youths from T/A Malengachanzi and T/A Mwadzama have successfully completed vocational skills training under the Youth Employability Scheme (YES) project, writes Jackson Henry Mwakibinga.
The one-year program equipped participants with diverse vocational skills, fostering self-reliance and community development.
Led by Programme Manager Agness Manda, the project aims to "equip youths with essential skills," mitigate risks such as early marriages, and foster self-reliance within the community.
The YES project encompasses a diverse array of vocational disciplines including welding and fabrication, tailoring and designing, bricklaying, auto-mechanics, carpentry and joinery, and electrical installation.
Through intensive training sessions, these youths have been "equipped for success" and empowered with the necessary skills to embark on entrepreneurial endeavors and contribute meaningfully to society.
As part of their graduation, the graduates have been provided with start-up tool kits, enabling them to establish businesses in groups.
This collaborative approach not only fosters teamwork but also cultivates a sense of community engagement and entrepreneurship among the youths.
Moreover, in a commendable display of generosity and social responsibility, the tailoring students have initiated a heartwarming gesture by donating school uniforms to over 36 needy primary children within the community.
This act of kindness underscores the values of compassion and solidarity instilled through the YES project.
Looking ahead, FOCCAD remains committed to supporting the youths in their entrepreneurial pursuits beyond vocational skills training.
Plans for additional programs and opportunities are underway, ensuring sustained empowerment and development within the community.
