Malawi: Unemployment continues to be a major challenge in many African countries, including Malawi, leading to issues such as drug and substance abuse among young people, writes Titani Chiwalo.
In response, a youth group called Focus Winning was founded in 2016 in the Balaka district to create jobs for young people.
Initially focusing on music production, the group recognized in 2019 that unemployment was a major issue and decided to expand their business to include the branding and sale of clothing.
"The idea of introducing the business was projected with the aim of job creation and art improvement," said Yankho Makina, the CEO of Focus Winning.
"Using different social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, we have managed to promote our products, and we further ask customers to help in advertising the products through posts."
With the funds generated from sales, the group has been able to hire young people to work in various sectors of the company.
"The outcomes from selling our products have proven to be profitable ever since we engaged in the business, and such an intervention is productive as we can solve our challenges," said Aubrey Mwale, the Marketing Officer for Focus Winning.
Mphatso Maseno, a customer of the group, commended the high quality of their products.
Focus Winning has a vision of expanding their brand and hiring more young people in Malawi.
