Youth Engage in Nkhata Bay Hospital Clean Up
The non-profit mobilized youth from religious groups, secondary schools, and Youth Empowerment for Community Transformation to take part.
NKHATA BAY, Malawi- Over 100 youth participated in a clean up at Nkhata Bay District Hospital organized by local group Go Green Save Environment (GGSE), writes Rabecca Kaunda.
The non-profit mobilized youth from religious groups, secondary schools, and Youth Empowerment for Community Transformation to take part.
"Hospital surroundings were concerning," said GGSE Programmes Director Ethel Mwafulirwa after the event.
"As part of our sanitation project, we decided to take action by cleaning the premises and cutting the tall grass with help from the youth we mobilized."
Participant Ganizani Tembo from YEFCOT believes involving youth in such exercises greatly contributes to district cleanliness.
"Don't stop your good work," encouraged Nkhata Bay Central MP Simon Vuwa Kaunda.
"This is our hospital, and our duty to care for it without waiting for officials."
Assistant Environmental Health Officer Josephy Mwamembe appreciated the gesture, saying it helped since the hospital has few ground laborers to cover every corner.
"Youth involvement key to community care," said Mwafulirwa.
