Youth Alliance Distributes Maize Flour to Combat Hunger in Zomba
One of the beneficiaries, Gladys Chanunkha, concurred with Masanga's appeal for beneficiaries to use the maize flour for its intended purpose rather than selling it to vendors.
ZOMBA, Malawi- In an effort to combat the hunger crisis that has engulfed many parts of the country, the Youth Alliance for Zomba Ntonya, with the help of Shepherd Bushiri, has embarked on a maize flour distribution initiative to different households, writes Peter Ngwenyama.
Speaking during the distribution of maize flour in Lambulira Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi, Director for Youth Alliance Hoppings Masanga bemoaned the worsening hunger situation in the country, prompting their decision to assist more than 2,400 households in the area with maize flour as a way of complementing government efforts in distributing maize to those in dire need of food.
"Due to the dry spell that affected many parts across the nation, we thought to engage Prophet Shepherd Bushiri to assist with maize flour in order to ease some of the challenges people face due to hunger," Masanga said.
"We are distributing maize flour to different households in the district regardless of their party affiliation or religious background, and we are geared to support those in need."
Masanga emphasized the need for well-wishers to embrace the distribution of whatever they have to the needy, as the government alone cannot manage to assist every household.
He called for efforts from different partners to work together in order to assist families affected by the cyclone that hit the country last year and the dry spell that affected the nation.
One of the beneficiaries, Gladys Chanunkha, concurred with Masanga's appeal for beneficiaries to use the maize flour for its intended purpose rather than selling it to vendors.
She applauded the Youth Alliance for their gesture in distributing the flour.
