Xi, Chakwera Discuss Bilateral Cooperation at BRICS
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting each other's core interests.
SANDTON, South Africa— Chinese President Xi Jinping and Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera held a meeting on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Summit to discuss bilateral cooperation and mutual support, writes Winston Mwale.
During the meeting, President Xi expressed China's commitment to supporting Malawi in its socio-economic development, stating, "China supports Malawi in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions, and stands ready to continuously offer whatever help China can to the country."
President Xi also commended President Chakwera for upholding the one-China principle since taking office and expressed hope for continuous support between the two countries on issues concerning their respective core interests and major concerns.
Furthermore, President Xi emphasized China's willingness to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with Malawi and other developing countries, aiming to advance the development of the international order in a more equal and just direction.
President Chakwera expressed his gratitude for China's continuous support and described China as Malawi's true friend, brother, and partner. He highlighted the warm reception he received during his recent visit to China and affirmed Malawi's firm adherence to the one-China policy.
President Chakwera also acknowledged the significance of China's Belt and Road Initiative in promoting the common development of developing countries and expressed Malawi's willingness to deepen friendship and cooperation with China.
The meeting between the two leaders concluded with a mutual commitment to promote practical cooperation between China and Malawi and foster ever-new development in bilateral relations.
