Women's Democracy Network Zimbabwe Launches #InvestInHer Campaign
The month-long campaign, running throughout March under the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," aims to raise public awareness of International Women's Day on March 8.
HARARE, Zimbabwe — The Women's Democracy Network Zimbabwe (WDN-ZW) has launched its #InvestInHer campaign to commemorate International Women's Month and promote women's inclusion and participation in democratic processes, writes Winston Mwale.
"We ought to amplify women's voices, action and leadership as we celebrate Women's Power, Resilience, leadership, and Respect," said Daphne Machiri, campaign coordinator.
The month-long campaign, running throughout March under the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," aims to raise public awareness of International Women's Day on March 8.
It will feature women political leaders and gender champions sharing their experiences and perspectives across various media platforms.
"This campaign provides an opportunity to increase political will, commitment and encourage political decision makers to strive to ensure adequate space is created for women and support mechanisms are strengthened," WDN-ZW stated.
The network highlighted the importance of consistent representation for women in politics, saying "exceptional measures must be put in place to ensure that women are fully involved in Zimbabwe and the world's political leadership."
WDN-ZW emphasized that overcoming barriers, strengthening leadership capacities and promoting gender-responsive policymaking is "crucial for the development and progress of any society and key to achievement of SDG 5."
"Unlocking women's power means ensuring an enabling environment for women to assert and enjoy their rights, facilitating women equal leadership and participation in democracy processes," the organization said.
