Women Urged to Boldly Claim Top Roles at Global Health Conference
Governments of both developing and developed nations were urged to prioritize funding for AI health initiatives.
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania- The president of WomenLift has urged women to "shine brightest" and take up decision-making roles unapologetically while creating space for other women to join them, writes Innocencia Chimwemwe-Marie.
"Women, shine brightest - take up leadership spaces unapologetically and create space for other women to join," Ammie Batson said in her closing remarks of the three-day WomenLift Health Global Conference 2024 held in Dar es Salaam from April 6-8.
The call highlighted a key theme - that better health outcomes follow when women lead. Batson emphasized this is an ongoing mission, not a one-time goal, for women to rightfully claim top positions.
During the conference, men were also praised as crucial allies in uplifting women's leadership in the healthcare field.
A focus was also placed on the importance of investing in artificial intelligence to revolutionize global health solutions.
WomenLift, founded in 2017 by Michelle Barry, was inspired by Barry's experience at a medical conference in Nairobi, Kenya where she witnessed glaring gender imbalances.
She sought to end such disparities through the practical idea that women's leadership yields better health.
Governments of both developing and developed nations were urged to prioritize funding for AI health initiatives.
