White Ribbon Alliance launches What Midwives Want Campaign
The White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) Malawi launches "What Midwives Want" campaign in Lilongwe, writes Owen Nyaka.
White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) Malawi is conducting What Midwives Want Campaign, in which it seeks to interview nurses and midwives about what they want most in their work.
WRA Malawi Executive Director Hester Mkwinda Nyasulu says the study is unique because they want to give the opportunity for midwives themselves to talk.
"We are planning to interview over 5,000 midwives in Malawi. This study will assist to understand why Malawi is still having high maternal deaths and yet most of the deliveries are happening in the health facilities.
"It is clear that there are some challenges in the health facilities that we need to understand," says Nyasulu.
He, however, said at the end of this study they would invite the Ministry of Health, which is the largest employer, CHAM, private health facilities, donor partners, and private sector to figure out how they can collectively address the challenges.
Over MK7 million is expected to be used in the study and it will mostly be online where the nurses and midwives will be asked to respond to the questions.
Nyasulu is calling all nurses and midwives to participate in this study.
