BLANTYRE, Malawi— Mighty Mukuru Wanderers secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Bangwe All-Stars in the first leg of their Airtel Top 8 Cup match at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday, writes Happy Valirani.
Isaac Kaliati converted a penalty in the dying minutes of the first half following a handball in the box. Kaliati was later named man of the match.
Wanderers coach Meke Mwase expressed satisfaction with the win but noted concerns about missed scoring opportunities.
"We played very well, especially in the first half, creating more chances but didn't convert them," Mwase said.
"We're going to make sure that we progress in the second leg."
Bangwe All-Stars coach Trevor Kajawa acknowledged a tactical shift in the second half.
"We changed the formation, put in two strikers, and played far better than the first half," he said.
The return leg will be hosted by Bangwe All Stars at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
