Wanderers, seeking their first cup trophy, now stand one match away from silverware after eliminating the Central Region Football Association premier division side.
BLANTYRE, Malawi— Mighty Mukuru Wanderers secured their place in the IBONGETSE Castel Challenge Cup finals Sunday, defeating Leyman Panthers 3-0 in a hard-fought semifinal match at Kamuzu Stadium, writes Happy Valirani.
Clement Nyondo broke the scoreless first-half deadlock in the 57th minute, with Blessings Singini and substitute Gaddie Chirwa adding goals in the 68th and 88th minutes, respectively.
"Winning against Panthers is not a joke," said Wanderers interim coach Bob Mpinganjira.
"We will prepare very well for the finals."
The victory sets up a championship match against the winner of Tuesday's semifinal between defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mzuzu City Hammers.
The final is scheduled for Dec. 21 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Panthers assistant coach Innocent Mkandira acknowledged his team's struggle, noting they lost concentration in the second half after a solid defensive first-half performance.
