Wanderers cruise past debutants FOMO 3-0 in Mulanje
Elsewhere, Silver Strikers beat Bangwe All Stars 3-1, Civo Sporting edged Moyale Barracks 3-2, and Chitipa United defeated Karonga United 4-1.
MULANJE, Malawi - Mighty Mukuru Wanderers comfortably beat TNM Super League newcomers Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO) FC 3-0 on Sunday at Mulanje Park Stadium for their first win of the season, writes Happy Valirani.
The Nomads capitalized on defensive lapses to score three goals in a 10-minute span after halftime through Felix Zulu, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Peter Cholopi.
The victory lifted Wanderers into fourth place with four points from two matches, following a 1-1 draw against Kamuzu Barracks in their opener.
"We wanted the three points more and our boys did everything possible and we won the game," said assistant coach Meck Mwase. "We worked on the mistakes that we spotted during our first game."
FOMO sit ninth with three points after their first two games. Coach Gilbert Chirwa lamented his players' lack of concentration during the 10-minute stretch.
"We managed to contain our opponents in the entire first half but in the second half we conceded three quick goals in space of 10 minutes due to lack of concentration," Chirwa said.
"We will go back to the drawing board and rectify those mistakes."
Elsewhere, Silver Strikers beat Bangwe All Stars 3-1, Civo Sporting edged Moyale Barracks 3-2, and Chitipa United defeated Karonga United 4-1.
Silver, Civo and Mzuzu City Hammers all have six points, with Silver leading on goal difference.
