Visually Impaired Mother Receives Aid, Seeks Educational Support for Children
Catherine Tchongwe, from Group Village Mathambo in Jalavikuwa, received blankets, clothes, food items, and necessities from ECOD.
MZIMBA, Malawi — A visually impaired woman in Mzimba has thanked the Ebenezer Community Development Organisation (ECOD) for providing critical support while appealing for educational assistance for her four children, writes Blessings Kaunda.
Catherine Tchongwe, from Group Village Mathambo in Jalavikuwa, received blankets, clothes, food items, and necessities from ECOD.
"My children have carried the entire burden instead of concentrating at school," Tchongwe said, explaining that her children, aged 9 to 18, have become the family's primary caregivers since her husband's disappearance.
Shadreck Thenda, ECOD's project officer, pledged continued support, including fertilizer provision.
"Our organization will make sure that the family has fertilizer, and we will also talk to a family who showed interest in taking care of two children," Thenda said, noting that any arrangements would comply with national laws.
Group Village Headman Mathambo appealed for additional support for the children's education.
"If there are people who can support the education of these four children, it will change the family's situation in future," he said.
The aid package included cooking oil, soap, blankets, household items, food supplies, and K100,000 in cash. ECOD emphasized its mission to empower vulnerable community members and help them attain their human rights.
Tchongwe stressed that educational support for her children would provide long-term security for the family's future.
