UTM Hopeful Mtumbuka Unveils Ambitious Plan for Malawi's Future

LILONGWE, Malawi— Matthews Mtumbuka, a contender for the UTM party leadership, outlined his vision for transforming Malawi on Tuesday, writes Wendi Mkandawire.
He emphasized key sectors for development and youth empowerment ahead of the party's upcoming convention.
Mtumbuka identified health, education, agriculture, and mining as crucial areas for reform.
"These sectors are essential for growing the economy and transforming the country," he stated.
The presidential hopeful pledged to prioritize Malawi's youth.
"Youths in the country have been neglected for so long," Mtumbuka said.
He promised to ensure young people are "trained, employed and empowered to shape the future of this nation."
Addressing Malawi's challenges, Mtumbuka criticized past inaction.
"We have been a nation of ideas but not of action," he noted.
He outlined his leadership philosophy: "My philosophy and the cornerstone of my leadership is simple: plan, execute, deliver results."
UTM members will choose their next leader at a convention scheduled for November 17.
Mtumbuka used the platform to appeal for support, asking for votes from party members.
