US Foundation to Open Rural Clinic in Malawi's Mchinji District
The clinic will treat outpatients, maternal and under-five cases, and provide outreach services.
LILONGWE, Malawi — Our Aim Foundation, a U.S.-based organization, plans to open a clinic in Mbewa village, Mchinji district, on Oct. 3, 2024, writes Martha Nakhate.
Foundation President Nishan Mandani said they chose Nafunse Health Centre, a remote area, due to the challenges residents face accessing medical care.
"People in the area struggle to access even basic needs, including education, because of its remoteness," Mandani said.
The clinic follows a previous hospital built by the foundation in Mkanda, Mchinji.
Our Aim also focuses on safe water access, women's empowerment and education.
Mandani appealed for partnerships to expand their reach in Malawi.
Board member Dr. Damson Kathyola assured the project's sustainability through a partnership with the Ministry of Health.
"Mchinji district health office will provide staff, medical necessities and drugs, while the foundation will continue building staff housing," Kathyola said.
The clinic, to support 92 villages, will treat outpatients, maternal and under-five cases, and provide outreach services.
