Unopposed Mhango Set for Another Term as MOC President
The elected candidates are expected to hold a four-year office term.
LILONGWE, Malawi- The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) holds its elective General Assembly (AGM) in Lilongwe on February 17 with incumbent president Jappie Mhango in particular set to retain his position at the helm, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
Mhango, widely seen to go unopposed with currently eleven nominations, has presented a polished business manager image he hopes will give Malawi Olympic a business touch when elected MOC president.
"We need strong leadership and a clear vision to take the organization forward," Mhango said.
Secretary General retired Captain John Kaputa will face General Kakhuta Banda on the position of vice-president with Kaputa managing to get five nominations ahead of Banda who has one nomination as of now.
Treasurer General Henry Sakala, currently with five nominations against Ms Lisungu Banda with one, he is optimistic that he will be elected as new Secretary General ahead of Banda.
“I put everything in the hands of the voters. If one gets into a race you expect to win. I believe I did well in my position as treasurer hence want to serve the organization better as secretary general,” said Sakala, Archers Association of Malawi president.
Dennis Kumwenda and Betrice Makwenda have been nominated on the position of vice-secretary, while executive member Andrew Mkwezalamba is going to contest as a treasure general.
Those vying for positions in the MOC executive board are Ms Sushira Khamisa, Ms Maggie Chikuni, Mr Tichitechi Nkhwazi, Mr Pyson Likagwa, Mr Peter Gomani, Mr Osborne Banda and Mr Willy Kumilambe, Mr Kenneth Dzekedzeke, Mr Issac Chimwala, and Mr Malombo Kayira.
The elected candidates are expected to hold a four-year office term.
