Under-15s to Battle it Out in Chess Tournament

Blantyre, Malawi - Young chess players from across Blantyre will compete this weekend for cash prizes sponsored by local construction company Meshozi Construction, writes Happy Valirani.
The Meshozi Construction under-15 chess tournament is scheduled for July 8, 2023, at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences.
According to Khisho Board Games chairperson Makhosi Nyirenda, Meshozi has committed MK200,000 in prize money for the five age and gender categories in the tournament.
"Meshozi Construction Company is committed to developing chess at the grassroots level," Nyirenda told AfricaBrief.
Competitions will be held for boys and girls under 8 years old, under 15 years old, and an open section for under-15 juniors with experience and under-23 college women.
Nyirenda has invited the public to attend, saying, "It will be an entertaining tournament." The young players "are ready to give a great showcase," he added.
"People should expect a great tournament," Nyirenda told AfricaBrief, encouraging chess fans to support the next generation of players.
The Meshozi Construction-sponsored under-15 chess tournament promises exciting competition among young players from across Blantyre.
With cash prizes on offer, players will be motivated to give strong performances and showcase their chess skills.
