Uncle Harvest on "P.L.O. LUMUMBA MEETS PRESIDENT CHAKWERA"

May the visit by P.L.O. Lumumba help to rejuvenate and spur President Chakwera's anti-corruption stance and fight.

Social media is awash with pictures and a story of Prof P.L.O. Lumumba's meeting with President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.

A day after President Chakwera's eulogy at the official funeral ceremony of late President John Mangufuli in Dodoma Tanzania, Prof Lumumba expressed a wish to have an audience with President Chakwera.

It is my guess that today's meeting was a fulfilment of that wish.

In a write up on his friendship and working relationship with late President Mangufuli, Prof Lumumba outlines how together they developed strategies and systems reforms that assisted President Mangufuli in both his anti-corruption drive and the implementation of infrastructural development projects.

If one was to pick one word on this approach , the word would be "integrity."

Prof Lumumba is a well known anti-corruption crusader.

Integrity is a prime ingredient in the fight against corruption.

It is about congruency of speech and action, inner and outer self; it is about character.

The anti- corruption fight calls for courage and determination. Without being resolute, it is a fight that can easily be lost.

Such determination is what made up speeches by both President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima during the campaign period.. Unfortunately, not much was heard from the other political leaders under them.

This calls for cohesiveness and resolute pursuit of purpose by the Presidency.

It is not surprising that there are some growing voices and attempts from some within their respective parties that want to cut asunder the President from his Vice.

These people realize that if Chakwera and Chilima remained united in purpose, they will fulfill their intentions of prospering Malawi to the benefit of everyone and the defeat of corruption.

May the visit by P.L.O. Lumumba help to rejuvenate and spur President Chakwera's anti-corruption stance and fight.

May it help to remove the cloud of dust that some people are generating to distract the President and his Vice from focusing on that which Malawians voted them for, to pursue development.

God bless Malawi and the Presidency.
