Two men arrested for killing 77-year-old man in Dowa, Malawi
On December 29, 2022, around 8:00 PM, Paliza Matindi, the son of the first suspect, and Joseph Chikumbutso, the grandson of the deceased, were quarrelling, leading to a physical altercation.
Malawi: Two men, Chikumbutso Matindi, 50, and Thokozani Magwero, 23, are being held in custody at Mponela Police Station in Dowa, central Malawi, for allegedly killing a 77-year-old man, Manondo Matindi, of Katukumuka Village in the district, according to Sergeant Macpatson Msadala, Mponela Police Station Public Relations Officer.
On December 29, 2022, around 8:00 PM, Paliza Matindi, the son of the first suspect, and Joseph Chikumbutso, the grandson of the deceased, were quarrelling, leading to a physical altercation.
Matindi went to intervene and stop the fight, but the suspects turned against him and began assaulting him.
The first suspect went to the deceased's house, retrieved a piece of wood, and hit him on the forehead, causing Manondo Matindi to fall down while bleeding heavily from his nose and mouth.
He was taken to Madisi Mission Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
A postmortem conducted at the scene of the crime revealed that the cause of death was a head injury due to assault.
The suspects are in custody and will appear in court soon. Both suspects are from Katukumuka Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chakhaza in Dowa District.
