Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of 7-Year-Old Learner in Nsanje
A young student tragically loses life in a road accident in Nsanje, as authorities emphasize the importance of road safety.
Nsanje, Malawi: In a devastating incident, a road accident in Nsanje claimed the life of 7-year-old student Chikondi Winford of Nyamadzere Primary School on Tuesday, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
According to Sub-Inspector Agnes Zalakoma, the Public Relations Officer of the District Police Station, the accident involved a Toyota Dyna with registration number NE 6972, driven by 23-year-old Mphatso Patrick.
The driver, hailing from Nsanje Boma, was travelling towards Bangula with two passengers on board.
"Upon arrival at Meru Filling Station, the driver hit the lad, now deceased, who was crossing the road from the right to the left-hand side of the road," explained Zalakoma.
Tragically, the impact resulted in severe internal injuries for the young pedestrian.
He was immediately rushed to the district hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
Both the driver and the passengers managed to escape the accident unhurt, and the vehicle sustained no damage.
However, the loss of young Chikondi Winford has left the community grief-stricken and in mourning.
In response to the incident, local law enforcement authorities are urging all road users to diligently observe and comply with road traffic rules and regulations. By prioritising safety and responsible driving, preventable accidents can be avoided.
Chikondi Winford hailed from Mbeta village, in the area of Senior Chief Malemia in Nsanje.
The entire community now mourns the loss of a promising young life, while authorities work to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
