Traditional Leaders Establish Fundraising Account for Tombstones of Political Giants in Shire Valley
Shire Valley leaders open fundraising account to honor fallen political giants, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
NSANJE & CHIKWAWA, Malawi — In a heartfelt tribute to two fallen political giants, traditional leaders in the Shire Valley districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje have launched a fundraising campaign by opening a dedicated bank account, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The initiative aims to collect funds for the construction of tombstones to honour the contributions of Gwanda Chakuamba and Mohammed Sidik Mia in the region and beyond.
Senior Chief Chimombo of Nsanje, acting as the spokesperson for the traditional leaders, confirmed the noble endeavour.
"Gwanda Chakuamba and Mohammed Sidik Mia have had a tremendous impact and have selflessly served our communities," he stated, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their commitment.
The campaign will first focus on completing the long-abandoned mausoleum for Gwanda Chakuamba at his official residence in Chinyanje, under the jurisdiction of Senior Chief Mlolo in Nsanje.
"As traditional leaders, we felt it was our duty to honour our fallen heroes in Nsanje and Chikwawa," Senior Chief Chimombo explained.
Following the completion of Chakuamba's mausoleum, the project will shift its attention to constructing a tombstone for Mohammed Sidik Mia at Makande in Ngabu, Chikwawa.
The aim is to provide a dignified resting place for both individuals and pay tribute to their remarkable contributions.
To contribute to this noble cause, supporters are encouraged to make donations to the following bank account: Gwanda Chakuamba Mausoleum, FDH Bank, Nsanje Branch, Current Account Number 1110000266632.
Government spokesperson Moses Kunkuyu has yet to comment on the traditional leaders' intentions, leaving their efforts to be met with anticipation and curiosity.
The construction of Gwanda Chakuamba's mausoleum was initiated by the government over two years ago but has since been halted.
This motivated the traditional leaders in Chikwawa and Nsanje to take matters into their own hands, ensuring that the tribute to these political giants is completed.
The unveiling of this fundraising campaign demonstrates the enduring respect and recognition bestowed upon figures who have made a lasting impact on their communities.
The story continues to unfold as the traditional leaders work diligently to honour the legacies of Gwanda Chakuamba and Mohammed Sidik Mia.
