Top Teachers Awarded for Best 2023 Exam Results
Bible Knowledge teacher David Nyirenda, one of the top JCE performers, said the award reminds them of their vital role in achieving the best results and improving on weaknesses.
KARONGA, Malawi - The Parents Teachers Association at St Mary's Karonga Girls secondary school has awarded the best performing teachers for 2023 Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exams as a way to recognize their efforts towards girl child education, writes Wezzie Mwangonde.
"The teachers are working tirelessly towards attaining the best results during national exams," said outgoing PTA Chairperson Elestina Bertha Chidzungu in an interview.
Chidzungu said they also awarded support staff including cooks, ground laborers, the librarian, driver and security guards who provide vital assistance in achieving excellent results.
"As parents we want to thank the teachers and staff for their efforts towards quality education. The results are impressive and the awards are just a motivation," she said.
Headmistress Martha Chizumira Nyondo said the motivation from the PTA is important because parents recognize their hard work. She noted that per their constitution, no students were awarded because none scored single digit points on the MSCE exams.
"The 2023 MSCE class performed very well with half above average, but unfortunately the top student had 11 points. This is a reminder for this year's class to keep working hard. We are grateful for the PTA's recognition," Nyondo said.
Bible Knowledge teacher David Nyirenda, one of the top JCE performers, said the award reminds them of their vital role in achieving the best results and improving on weaknesses.
He encouraged colleagues to stay motivated for all classes.
"If I managed 105 A's out of 147 students, every teacher can perform the same if given the chance," Nyirenda said.
The school has 28 teachers, 5 assistant teachers and 29 support staff.
