New York, US— The Water Changemaker Innovation Awards 2023 has unveiled the top 30 finalists from a remarkable selection of projects dedicated to addressing global water challenges, writes Winston Mwale.
This announcement was made during a hybrid event held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday, September 22, 2023.
These finalists represent a diverse array of water initiatives, including clean water access, quality enhancement, conservation, and cutting-edge technologies.
These projects exemplify the innovation and dedication needed to tackle the global water crisis.
Jaehyang So, Chair of the GWP Technical Committee and Jury of the Water Changemaker Awards, stated, "We are thrilled to announce the top 30 finalists of the Water Changemaker Innovation Awards 2023. Their exceptional dedication and innovative solutions are paving the way for a more sustainable and water-secure future. These finalists have demonstrated their commitment to making a meaningful impact in combating climate change."
The Water Changemaker Innovation Awards received a record number of submissions from individuals, organisations, and enterprises dedicated to advancing water sustainability.
The judging panel faced the challenging task of selecting the top 30 finalists from over 300 applications, based on their potential for lasting impact, innovation, and scalability.
One standout recipient of the awards, 14-year-old Sawyer Anderson from North Dakota, USA, received special recognition from the Chairperson for her innovation, diversity, and inclusion efforts.
Sawyer raises funds through her book, "Water Works," and handmade African chitenge bags, using the proceeds to provide clean water in Zambia. To date, she has raised $1.2 million and built 84 clean water wells.
