TNM Wins 2024 Best Internet Award in Malawi Again
Judges said they singled out TNM as an important driver of Malawi's sustained development through its cutting-edge internet and telecommunications offerings
BLANTYRE, Malawi -- For the second year in a row, TNM Plc has been named the "Best Internet Connectivity" company in Malawi by the Information Technology Association of Malawi, writes Audrey Phekani.
The award, announced at ICTAM's recent 2024 Corporate Awards ceremony, recognizes TNM's ability to provide high-quality, stable internet service despite facing challenges like unpredictable weather and economic conditions, said Limbani Nsapato, the telecom's corporate affairs manager.
"This accolade is a testament to TNM's unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in advancing the ICT sector and driving the digital economy," Nsapato said.
"At TNM, we continue to take command of technological advancements in response to the dynamic needs of our customers in a fast-paced digital world."
Nsapato said the repeat recognition reaffirms TNM's position as an industry leader delivering seamless internet connectivity and empowering individuals and businesses in Malawi's digital transformation.
"It inspires us to continue pioneering innovative and integrated mobile network and ICT services that respond to real customer needs," he said.
TNM, which is listed on the Malawi Stock Exchange, beat out rivals Airtel and Inq Digital to claim the award for a second straight year.
The company was an early mover in 5G, launching the next-generation mobile network services in 2023. It's now expanding 5G coverage from Blantyre's central business district and Lilongwe City Centre to other parts of the country.
TNM also broke new ground by introducing its own Mastercard-powered debit cards linked to its mobile money platform Mpamba.
That made it the first telecom operator in Malawi enabling such retail payment convenience and electronic ticketing for events like soccer matches.
"The ICTAM award will motivate us to continue delivering world-class innovations by applying mobile network technology as a catalyst for helping Malawi achieve her national growth ambitions as envisioned in the #MW2063 document," Nsapato said, referring to the country's development plan.
Judges said they singled out TNM as an important driver of Malawi's sustained development through its cutting-edge internet and telecommunications offerings.
The company said it remains committed to investing in modern infrastructure to improve access to digital services and internet penetration across Malawi, in support of the government's socio-economic development goals.
