TNM Launches K318 Million Community Projects Under Mudziwathu Initiative
TNM has partnered with organizations including the National Youth Council of Malawi, Joyce Banda Foundation, and Plan International Malawi for this initiative.
THYOLO, Malawi — TNM Plc, Malawi's leading mobile network provider, has begun implementing K318 million worth of community projects nationwide through its Mudziwathu initiative, writes Yamikani Sekeni.
The program aims to develop communities and boost local economies using a portion of TNM's revenue.
It focuses on enhancing community development, promoting job creation, and improving mobile phone penetration.
Lloyd Gowera, TNM's Chief Technical Officer, spoke at the launch of the implementation phase in Thyolo district.
"Reaching this final phase of the Mudziwathu initiative, we at TNM are very happy to see remarkable strides that have been registered," Gowera said.
"Malawians have actively participated in the social economic growth and infrastructure development through the usage of TNM products and services."
The initiative allows communities to choose projects based on funds accrued from local TNM service usage.
TNM is allocating 1% of its revenue from network usage toward these development projects.
To mark the launch, TNM handed over dairy cattle worth K4.8 million to 11 families in Traditional Authority Nchilamwera, Thyolo, as part of a pass-on project.
Thyolo District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga praised TNM's efforts, saying, "These cows will add value toward fighting food insufficiency."
The Mudziwathu initiative also targets youth empowerment through mobile money agent opportunities and increased mobile phone access via credit schemes.
