TNM Donates K2 Million to Zomba Press Club to Mark World Press Freedom Day
Zomba Press Club President Tytus Lizzie welcomed the timely contribution, noting it comes as the media fraternity commemorates World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3.
ZOMBA, Malawi— Telecommunications company TNM has donated K2 million to the Zomba Press Club as part of commemorating World Press Freedom Day, underscoring the critical role of an independent media, writes Peter Ngwenyama.
During the handover ceremony, TNM Corporate Affairs Manager Limbani Nsapato highlighted the importance of promoting developmental agendas and disseminating accurate information in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.
"As one way of promoting media freedom, the press should be active in promoting developmental agendas in the country," Nsapato said.
"We thought to work together with media as one way of promoting social responsibility and the critical role media plays in discriminating information accurately."
He urged journalists across the nation to remain vibrant and observe codes of ethics in their operations.

World Press Freedom Day celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom and provides an opportunity to evaluate the state of media freedoms globally while defending the media from attacks on their profession.
