Tilelane CBO Makes a Life-Changing Gesture for Disabled Woman in Likoma
"I can now move about freely without relying on others to carry me," Mzungu shared with AfricaBrief, her face beaming with smiles.
LIKOMA, Malawi— Tilelane, a local Community Based Organization (CBO) based on Likoma Island, has made a profound impact on the life of a 63-year-old physically challenged woman, Lilian Mzungu, who had endured five years without access to a wheelchair, writes Oliver Malibisa.
Lilian Mzungu, a resident of Mtaya Village on Likoma Island, expressed her joy and gratitude for the donation provided by Tilelane, which will significantly improve her mobility and independence.
"I can now move about freely without relying on others to carry me," Mzungu shared with AfricaBrief, her face beaming with smiles.
Martha Mkuyamba, one of Mzungu's relatives, explained that the wheelchair donation came at a time when the family could not afford to purchase one, making it an especially meaningful and timely gesture.
Andrea Mwasili, Vice Chairperson of Tilelane CBO, called upon the Likoma Island community to join forces in supporting the organisation as it strives to assist many others in need of various forms of support.
In addition to the wheelchair, the CBO also donated bedroom essentials such as a mattress, duvets, and other bedding materials.
Tilelane CBO relies on funding from well-wishers and engages in house donations to the elderly and other less privileged individuals, working diligently to ensure their safety and happiness.
