Three Arrested for Breaking into Chikale Beach Resort
Three people have been arrested in Nkhatabay District for allegedly breaking into Chikale Beach Resort and stealing assorted property worth over K4 million
Nkhata Bay, Malawi– Three people have been arrested in Nkhatabay District for allegedly breaking into Chikale Beach Resort and stealing assorted property worth over K4 million, writes Tionge Hara.
The suspects, Luka Jere, Kennedy Mvula, and Augustine Phiri, all from Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba District, were arrested on July 13, 2023.
The theft was discovered on July 12, 2023, when the lodge manager, Josephine Iman Chinyama, received a phone call from a well-wisher informing her that some rooms at the resort were open.
Chinyama went to check and found that four rooms had been broken into and the following items had been stolen:
Two Telefanken Plasmas
Four blankets
A mini fridge
Four mattresses
Other items valued at K4,347,500.00
The police were immediately informed and they launched investigations, which led to the arrest of the three suspects. The suspects have been charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony therein.
The police spokesperson for Nkhata Bay District, Sergeant Kondwani James, said that the suspects were arrested after a tip-off from members of the public.
"We are grateful to members of the public who provided us with information that led to the arrest of these suspects," James said.
"We urge the public to continue providing us with information so that we can apprehend other criminals."
The suspects will appear in court soon after the case files have been prepared.
