TEVETA, MUST Partner to Boost Innovation Training for Malawi Youth
The partnership will introduce Technical Teacher Training to enhance instruction at technical colleges nationwide.
LILONGWE, Malawi— The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) and Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) signed an agreement Tuesday to strengthen youth innovation and entrepreneurship programs, writes Esther Banda.
The memorandum of understanding, signed at TEVETA headquarters in Lilongwe, focuses on developing skills among young people, particularly women, in support of Malawi's Vision 2063 development goals.
"We are partnering with MUST on several projects, including three funded initiatives currently targeting youths and women," said TEVETA Executive Director Elwin Chiwembu Sichiola.
The partnership will introduce Technical Teacher Training to enhance instruction at technical colleges nationwide.
Sichiola said this addresses "gaps we identified in our collaborative efforts."
MUST Vice Chancellor Address Malata emphasized the agreement's potential impact beyond current development targets.
"We want to see young people building skills in innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and enterprise," Malata said.
"Malawi is youth-centric, and we cannot allow our young people to remain idle."
The university will provide space for innovators, including those who haven't attended public universities, Malata said.
She committed to offering technical teachers opportunities for advanced education.
"One innovation can transform this nation," she said.
