Teaching Children the Word of God Seen as Solution to Challenges
The World Adventurer Day is a day in the Seventh-Day Adventist church commemorated yearly on the third Saturday of May.
LILONGWE, Malawi- Teaching children the word of God has been singled out as a solution in ending challenges that children face in the country, writes Benson Kamonjola.
Macconewell Malanguka, a church elder at Mchesi Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Lilongwe, made the remarks at the church on the sidelines of World Adventurer Day, which was commemorated on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
During the event, children conducted all activities as a way of empowering them and instilling courage. Malanguka told Africabrief that the church is committed to ensuring children are nurtured spiritually and morally.
"As the church, it is our wish to assist these children spiritually and morally to ensure that they become good citizens," said Malanguka.
He added that the church also works with parents on how to raise their children and protect them from different forms of abuse.
"As the church, we are concerned that children in the country continue to face different forms of abuse. For that reason, we also deal with parents to ensure that they are taking care of the children in our society," Malanguka stated.
A recent report released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) revealed that over 70% of children in the country live in abject poverty.
Child rights activist Amos Chibwana suggests a multi-sectoral approach to address the challenges children face can help eliminate some of these issues.
"If religious people and traditional leaders can be at the forefront, setting initiatives that protect children, we can start doing well as a nation," said Chibwana.
