LILONGWE, Malawi - The Secondary School Teachers Union (SESTU) has commended the government for its recent recruitment and promotion of teachers across the country, writes Royal Kasiya.
In a statement, SESTU President Pilirani Kapolo said the initiatives have had a positive impact by lowering the teacher-to-student ratio in schools and ensuring quality education for learners.
"This initiative marks a significant stride in alleviating the teacher to student ratio in our schools, thereby ensuring the delivery of quality education to our learners," Kapolo said.
According to Kapolo, the government's commitment to hiring qualified teachers and promoting experienced educators has significantly improved education quality in secondary schools.
The recruitment has helped reduce teacher-student ratios, allowing more personalized attention for students.
Meanwhile, promoting existing teachers has boosted morale and motivation, leading to more productive learning environments.
The union however urged the Ministry of Education to consider promoting teachers who have served over 6 years at the same grade.
