Malawi: Police in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe are looking for two suspects who robbed a taxi driver of his vehicle, a Daihatsu Mira with registration number CA 6472, on Sunday night, November 20, 2022, at Bypass Road in the City after poisoning him with food.

At around 19:00 hours, the victim (driver), Thokozani Micah, was approached by two individuals who hired him to go to Bypass road.

According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Hastings Chigalu, the suspects shared the driver's food, which he ate while driving.

However, minutes later, the driver became so exhausted that he was unable to continue driving.

The suspects were then free to remove Thokozani from the driver's seat and place him in the back seat.

The suspects then took control of the vehicle and drove it to Mlambe Motel on the Lilongwe Bypass Road, where they dumped the driver and fled.

Well-wishers who came across the helpless victim alerted the vehicle's owner, who then rushed him to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

The station's detectives are on the ground gathering vital information in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, the Lilongwe Police Station advises motorists to be extra cautious and avoid eating shared food from unknown passengers, as criminals have developed sophisticated methods of car theft.
