As Africa continues its journey towards sustainable development, the evaluation and enhancement of information exchange mechanisms are paramount.
LIVINGSTONE, Zambia — The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) is holding its 14th Country Correspondent Conference in Livingstone, Zambia, bringing together representatives from all 43 ATAF member countries, Exchange of Information officials and ATAF Secretariat staff, writes Winston Mwale.
Hosted by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), the conference aims to deliberate on pivotal issues including fortifying the role of ATAF's Country Correspondents, and enhancing collaboration among members.
Scheduled from Feb. 21-22, 2024, the conference will serve as a crucial platform for the Secretariat and Country Correspondents to strengthen their relationship and devise strategies for bolstering cooperation, ensuring ATAF's visibility, and facilitating successful service delivery to members.
This year’s conference will be held under the theme “Evaluating and enhancing information exchange mechanisms in ATAF Member countries, a cornerstone in fostering effective tax governance.”
In its commitment to fostering expertise and knowledge exchange, ATAF orchestrated 20 comprehensive training programs tailored to address the evolving needs of member states in domestic and international taxation last year.
"The 14th ATAF Country Correspondent Conference provides a unique opportunity for African tax authorities to come together, exchange insights, and strategize on strengthening our common organization and enhancing information exchange mechanisms, which are crucial in combating illicit financial flows," said Logan Wort, ATAF's Executive Secretary.
“By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, we not only pave the way for more effective tax governance across the continent but also disrupt channels used for illicit financial activities, safeguarding our economies and shaping Africa's tax future.”
Dingani Banda, the Commissioner General for the Zambia Revenue Authority, emphasized Zambia's interest in hosting the conference and highlighted its expected role in discussing Exchange of Information to combat Illicit Financial Flows.
As Africa continues its journey towards sustainable development, the evaluation and enhancement of information exchange mechanisms are paramount.
The 14th ATAF Country Correspondent Conference promises to be a pivotal moment in this journey, bringing together key stakeholders to chart a path towards more effective tax administration and governance.
