The fundraiser dinner represents one key part of a broader push to revive Malawian football and bring it up to higher standards.
LILONGWE, Malawi-With less than two months to go before the 2024 TNM Super League season kicks off, the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) will host a fundraiser dinner at the Bingu International Conference Center (BICC) in Lilongwe on March 1st, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
The event aims to mobilize funds to motivate and support league teams.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, SULOM President Colonel Gilbert Mitawa urged different stakeholders to support the fundraising campaign in a quest to revive, reform and rebrand Malawian football.
“As an association we believe this event will greatly help motivate and encourage some teams who struggle financially every season to perform better, and we are calling for everyone to support this initiative,” said Colonel Mitawa.
Among other plans, SULOM intends to organize coaching refresher courses before the season starts to help improve performance.
“The focus will be on performance analysis and use of modern technologies,” Mitawa added.
According to the SULOM President, all resources from the March 1st fundraiser dinner will go towards stated purposes and be fully accounted for.
Meanwhile, sports analyst Gilbert Manda has commended the Super League association for launching this effort to boost Malawian football.
“It is a very positive development that should help lift up struggling teams,” he said.
Recently the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced at its Executive Committee meeting in Mangochi that the 2024 football calendar will commence on April 6th across all leagues.
With the season kick-off nearing, SULOM aims to ensure teams are well-prepared both financially and strategically.
