Super 5 Bonanza Returns to Kickstart Northern Malawi Football
Organizers hope this year's bonanza will generate similar excitement and benefit Northern football.
Karonga, Malawi - Organizers of the Super 5 bonanza have announced the 2024 edition of the preseason football tournament will be held from March 22-25 at Karonga Stadium, writes Victor Musongole.
In a statement, organizing committee chair Donnex Chilonga said the bonanza provides an opportunity for Northern Region teams to assess preparations ahead of the new TNM Super League season.
Participating teams will include Chitipa United, hosts Karonga United, Moyale Barracks, Mzuzu City Hammers and newly promoted Baka City.
"The games will allow coaches to work on weaknesses and evaluate player fitness before competitive matches begin," Chilonga commented.
However, he noted the committee is still seeking sponsors, describing sponsorship as a challenge.
Football administrator Alufeyo Dicon Chipanga Banda backed the tournament's value in sharpening sides despite sponsorship hurdles.
"Preseason tournaments help teams prepare, but lacking funding impacts both these events and the teams themselves," he said.
Last year's edition saw Extreme FC defeat Karonga United in the final hosted in Rumphi.
Organizers hope this year's bonanza will generate similar excitement and benefit Northern football.
