Students from Demonstration Primary School Donate to HIV/AIDS Survivors in Karonga
This donation is in response to lessons the students had in their first topic of the Life Skills book.
Karonga, Malawi - Standard 8 students from Demonstration Primary School in Ipiyana zone, Karonga district, have made a heartwarming donation of assorted items to two HIV/AIDS survivors from Mwalewa village in the district, writes Ellah Chirwa
This donation is in response to lessons the students had in their first topic of the Life Skills book.
After donating the items, the head teacher of the school, Lasmis K. Mtonga, highly praised the students and their life skills teacher for their commendable activity.
Mtonga emphasised the importance of putting theory into practise, indicating that the students' actions reflect what they learned about supporting vulnerable people, especially those living with HIV/AIDS.
"I'm impressed with what the students have done to help vulnerable people after learning an activity on how they can support those living with HIV and AIDS," said Mtonga.
Mtonga also encouraged teachers across the country to take this as a lesson and practise such activities to contribute to government efforts to improve developmental activities.
A student representing the class, Steven Chande, explained that the class of 81 students, together with the head teacher, raised 25,000 Malawian Kwacha (about $30) and used it to purchase items such as sugar, cooking oil, Irish potatoes, and more.
Chande pointed out that their gesture aligns with the biblical scripture that emphasises the importance of helping the underprivileged, and he commended his classmates for their cooperation in making this donation.
One of the HIV/AIDS survivors, whose name was withheld, expressed appreciation for the kind gesture and shared how this support meant a lot to her, especially since she was diagnosed as HIV positive in 2010.
She called on various organisations and individuals to join hands in supporting people living with HIV and AIDS, as they are essential members of society.
Love is living for others.... Bravo my learners. Keep it uo..
