CHIRADZULU, Malawi - Social Work students from Magomero College in Chiradzulu district expressed a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication to support vulnerable youths in Traditional Authority Ntchema by providing essential basic needs in an event held on Friday, writes Royal Kasiya.
Through an organization called Magomero Social Workers Association (MASOWA), the students volunteered their time to connect with at-risk youth and address their most pressing needs by providing clothes, shoes and offering mentorship and guidance, making a tangible impact on their lives.
"We felt compelled to take action," said Lucy Bridget Chafwa, a student who organized the event.
"As social work students, we believe in empowerment and service, and what better way to put our knowledge into practice than by directly helping our community?"
The initiative has not only provided practical support but has also fostered a sense of community and belonging for the vulnerable youths.
Through their dedication and empathy, the social work students prove that a small group of committed individuals can bring about meaningful change in the lives of those who need it most.
"I am very excited and appreciated for the support," said Vincent Waile, one of the youths who received donations. Waile, a standard 8 learner, wants to be a doctor after completing his education.
In her remarks, Child Protection Worker Loveness Mangisa thanked the students for their generosity, saying the donations "have opened new pathways for the community."
Group Village Headman Nyimbiri, Eleson Adson Nakwawa, acknowledged the impact the donations will have.
"I also acknowledge that with this donation our youths will develop a sense of recognition and confidence which will help them work hard in school," he said.
