Standard Bank Tops Africa's Most Valuable Banking Brands for Third Straight Year
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Standard Bank has been named Africa's most valuable banking brand for the third year running by Brand Finance, the world's leading brand valuation consultancy, writes Frank Phiri.
The South African financial services giant increased its brand value by 12.4% over the past year to reach $1.9 billion, ranking it 138th globally, up from 145th in 2023.
Standard Bank was the only African bank to make the Top 500 list.
"We are honored to receive this accolade, which affirms our commitments to providing consistently excellent service for our clients and to driving Africa's growth," said Standard Bank Group Chief Executive Sim Tshabalala.
Brand Finance's annual ranking evaluates 5,000 of the biggest brands worldwide across all sectors.
Its Banking 500 study measures brand value using factors like marketing investment, stakeholder equity and business performance.
The Standard Bank Group has a presence in 20 African countries and six international financial centers. It is the continent's largest bank by total assets.
"The Standard Bank brand is a trusted symbol of growth across Africa," said Chief Operating Officer Margaret Nienaber.
"This valuation confirms who we are and what we do as a brand is meaningful and relevant."
Tshabalala was also named one of the 10 Top Bank CEOs in Brand Finance's Brand Guardianship Index, praised for championing gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives like the Top Women Conference.
"Under his leadership, Standard Bank has become an invaluable partner in supporting initiatives that empower women leaders," the consultancy stated.
Nienaber said the bank remains committed to innovation and digitization to meet evolving client needs through "organic and targeted partnerships."
