Standard Bank Donates K15 Million to NCIC Conference
The 2024 International Construction Conference will be held under the theme "Innovate, Adapt and Excel: Quality Driven Construction Industry."
LILONGWE, Malawi — Standard Bank has donated K15 million to support the 2024 International Construction Conference, scheduled for Aug. 7-9 in Mangochi, writes AfricaBrief Reporter.
Graham Chipande, Standard Bank's head of business and commercial banking, presented the check to the National Construction Industry Council (NCIC).
He emphasized the bank's commitment to driving economic growth in Malawi.
"We have made this contribution to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the NCIC and all construction industry stakeholders in their efforts to build a better and prosperous Malawi," Chipande said.
He highlighted Standard Bank's involvement in key infrastructure projects, including:
- Upgrading the Kenyatta-Mzimba road in Lilongwe
- Supporting the Nacala railway corridor project
- Restructuring Escom's debts to improve electricity supply
NCIC Chief Executive Officer Gerald Khonje welcomed the donation, calling it a "timely boost" for the country's infrastructure development.
"The support we have received from Standard Bank is crucial for our conference," Khonje said.
"We believe that Standard Bank has already started initiating the important dialogue which our conference is focusing on through its growth conversations launched a few weeks ago."
The 2024 International Construction Conference will be held under the theme "Innovate, Adapt and Excel: Quality Driven Construction Industry."
Khonje said the NCIC is making progress toward its 100 million kwacha ($93,000) fundraising target for the conference.
