Sports Minister Visits Malawi Queens Training Camp, Addresses Challenges Ahead of Netball World Cup

LILONGWE, MALAWI — As the Malawi Queens prepare for the upcoming Netball World Cup in South Africa, Sports Minister Uchizi Mkandawire made a visit to their training camp at Bingu National Stadium, writes Judgement Katika.
During his visit, Minister Mkandawire acknowledged the challenges faced by the Queens and emphasised the government's support. One crucial issue highlighted was the problem of allowances, which the Ministry has already discussed with the Sports Council.
"I thought of coming here to thank you all for your dedication to putting Malawi on the map and also to encourage and motivate you," stated Minister Mkandawire.
He also expressed high expectations and confidence in the team's capabilities to make their country proud.
Additionally, the Minister provided updates on the progress of the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex, a facility aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure in the country.
Furthermore, Mkandawire disclosed that the Ministry is working on the reinstatement of the Presidential Cup, a tournament that will aid in talent identification.
Queens Captain Jane Chimaliro expressed gratitude to the Minister for his visit and the support extended to the team.
The Malawi Queens are scheduled to travel to South Africa on July 21, 2023, to participate in the Netball World Cup.
