SOS Children's Villages Malawi Takes a Stand Against Corruption, Fraud
SOS Children's Villages Malawi conducts corruption and fraud prevention workshop to protect resources for vulnerable children and families.
LILONGWE, Malawi – SOS Children's Villages Malawi, in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), organised a corruption and fraud awareness workshop for its employees on Wednesday, writes Moses Nyirenda.
The workshop aimed to equip the staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent corruption and fraud while executing their duties.
Hope Msosa, Deputy National Director and Programme Lead of SOS Children's Villages Malawi emphasised the importance of ensuring the appropriate use of resources for vulnerable children and families.
Addressing the participants, Msosa stated, "As SOS Children's Village Malawi, we work with various partners, including government agencies, community-based organizations, and non-governmental organisations. As an organisation that receives public funds, we must safeguard these resources and prevent their abuse."
Msosa further explained the organization's commitment to raising awareness of corruption and fraud prevention among the communities they serve.
"We are also eager to extend awareness of corruption and fraud prevention to all the communities and stakeholders we work with," he added.
As part of their efforts, SOS Children's Villages Malawi plans to conduct community awareness activities on corruption and fraud prevention in the Chadza community, where they work with over 2500 families and various community-level structures, including schools and development committees.
The organisation aims to reduce incidents of corruption and fraud not only among its employees but also within the communities it serves.
By promoting ethical practises and ensuring the transparent use of resources, SOS Children's Villages Malawi seeks to uphold its commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children and families.
George Makande, Senior Corruption Prevention Officer at the ACB, commended SOS Children's Villages Malawi for taking a proactive stance against corruption. Makande highlighted the significance of organisations actively participating in the fight against corruption, emphasising that the ACB alone cannot win this battle.
He stated, "What SOS Children's Villages Malawi has done is significant towards the fight against corruption in the country."
The corruption and fraud awareness workshop serves as a crucial step in fostering integrity and accountability within SOS Children's Villages Malawi.
By equipping its employees with the necessary knowledge and emphasising community-wide awareness, the organisation is making strides in safeguarding resources and ensuring their effective utilisation for the betterment of vulnerable children and families.
