Songwe Border Post Upgrade to Ease Congestion, Boost Revenue Collection
The OSBP is designed to consolidate border control procedures, potentially cutting processing times for both travelers and goods.
KARONGA, Malawi — The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) expects the completion of the Songwe One Stop Border Post (OSBP) to alleviate congestion and reduce waiting times for travelers, writes Pemphero Musowa.
Set for completion in November, the project aims to streamline border operations at one of Malawi's top three revenue-generating crossings.
"This upgrade will significantly improve efficiency and enhance our revenue collection capabilities," said John Biziwick, MRA Commissioner General.
Resident engineer Musafiri Seboru reported progress on land reclamation and retaining wall construction.
"We're preparing to begin superstructure work once steel materials arrive," Seboru said.
